Fans Demand Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who jumped a fence and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a event pathway surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is clearly a punishable act," commented an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore venue, including a number who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two very different sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, earning two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
