People have assembled across the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The government authorities postponed state commemorations until October 16th - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still were held across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was respected around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams convened in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not recommence hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to close the gaps between the two sides.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war management of the area

Civilian Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place seems like home now and until all the hostages return not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can feel relief once more. Then we can commence heal," she continued.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their support for the relatives of the hostages. Israel states forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Activist a participant explained: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the hostilities to end in return for the release of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the music event, those paying respects assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the severe Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the morning of that day in the western district, sector and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night falls, the dread arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had received the corpses of several people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city reported additional fatalities had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli forces while looking for help to the southern area, medics said.

The region's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
