More than 50 unaccompanied child asylum seekers who vanished shortly after reaching the UK and while being looked after by the authorities are remain unaccounted for, according to information obtained.

Numerous of the vanished youths arrived in dinghies or stowed away in the rear compartments of vehicles and are believed to have been abducted by traffickers. A specific county is often the area where they arrive.

Government Figures Shows Concerning Numbers

Freedom of information data has registered 345 children vanishing from the region, with 56 of those yet to be located.

From 2021 and 2023, when two hotels for children were run along with other sites in various locations, 132 children disappeared from the accommodations. From this group, 108 were eventually recovered but 24 are remain unaccounted for.

From 2020 and August 2025, 213 children vanished from welcome hubs for this group, with 182 recovered and 32 remaining vanished.

Origin Statistics of Unaccounted Youths

In each instance, Albanian children were the largest group to disappear, making up 50% the aggregate from the temporary accommodations, 68, and over 25% from the reception centres, 65.

The second and third largest ethnic groups to have disappeared from the two settings are individuals from Afghanistan followed by Iranian nationals.
