New Particulars Emerge Concerning the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Remains
Fresh particulars have surfaced about the tragic deaths of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Los Angeles home property on Sunday.
The Discovery
A source indicates quoting a confidential source, a therapist scheduled for an session first raised the alarm after failing to get inside the house. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
Upon entering the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Accounts indicate she then fled the house in anguish, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Afterward, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Developments
Authorities have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is now being held and is ineligible for bail.
Correcting the Record
The person close to the family also disputed several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.
Additionally refuted widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "worried" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction applies to reports of alleged "erratic" conduct by Nick at a party thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they asserted that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were inaccurate.
Investigation Timeline
According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some accounts noted the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, some 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
