Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
