Swedish Squad Announcement: Alexander Isak Selected Whereas Viktor Gyokeres Excluded
Viktor Gyokeres signed with Arsenal after leaving Sporting this summer
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres fails to make the cut from Graham Potter's initial Swedish national team selection, while Reds striker the talented attacker has earned inclusion
The Arsenal forward is set for further assessments this week following worries of a muscle problem during the Gunners's Premier League victory against the Clarets on Saturday
Gyokeres was absent from the Gunners' Champions League win against the Czech side earlier this week
Isak Makes Comeback
Isak, who has been sidelined since 22 October due to a groin injury, was selected for the World Cup games versus the Swiss team (November 15th) plus the Slovenian side (November 18th)
Other England-based Inclusions
- Tottenham playmaker Lucas Bergvall, who is recovering from a head injury
- Magpies wide player Anthony Elanga
Both athletes feature in Potter's England-based contingent chosen by ex- Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham manager the new Swedish coach
Potter's Role
The English manager took over the Swedish federation first temporarily in late October, less than four weeks following he was dismissed by the Hammers
Previous boss the Danish coach was fired following the national team's defeat to the Kosovan team in mid-October, a result which rendered automatic qualification from qualifying group unattainable
Present Standing
Sweden find themselves bottom in Group B having just one point in four matches
Even if they fail to finish second, they could still participate in the World Cup play-offs due to thanks to their showing in the latest UEFA competition
