The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Versus the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now slugged 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot other than him with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their performance this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he added.
The Blue Jays won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
