The network's Leading New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
