The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's MVP award in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

Jokic was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half in an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

Jones landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the ground clutching his knee.

The star, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before incurring the injury.

The player is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the issue.

"Instantly, Jokic realized something was wrong," said Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as special as him. More information will come tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Of course, currently, I am more worried primarily about Jokic as a person and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
