What We Know Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
No fewer than 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 sustained injuries when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have called a act of terrorism.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.
She told the events leading up to the shooting, saying they were standing when the gunfire began. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement read.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with several in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he heard “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
